Coming from Montreal, Quebec, The Last Felony, comprised of Joss Fredette on vocals, Dominic Grimard and Félix Roberge on guitars, Sébastien Painchaud on bass and Vincent Ménard on drums have recently released their second album, Too Many Humans. Fans of speedy, aggressive and filled with hate death metal, prepare your ears for their latest assault!
Too Many Humans is an intense, relentless trip to the land of crushing technical death metal from start to finish. Without being a hundred miles away from Aeon of Suffering, this album is a step forward for The Last Felony: The production quality is very solid, we can easily tell apart every instruments from the vocals to the bass which is very audible and offers a lot of cool slapping throughout the album. All these elements mixed together are very well rendered. The guys also seem more mature and confident about what they do on this album, we can feel that they are in control and know where they are going.
Without reinventing the wheel, The Last Felony is offering a very good death metal. Just listen to songs like Too Many Humans, Overrated Existence, Water Cooler Suicide or Quandary which is one of my favorite: the slow beginning (Well, compared to the album in general) followed by a full frontal assault of brutality using all the power at hand, then delve back again in a slower part that only prepares the listener for what I think to be one of the greatest moment on this album between 3:05 and 3:40! Man, that part of the song slays everything on its path! This is an example of the fierceness I felt while listening and digesting Too Many Humans.
In short, Too Many Humans is a very decent death metal album where one can appreciate the evolution of the band in terms of sound and songwriting. This album will definitely satisfy your needs for brutal music. The band members are currently touring Canada with Despised Icon on their farewell tour so make sure to catch them live before they leave for their European tour!
Favorite songs: Quandary, Overrated Existence and Water Cooler Suicide
