Review: Insurrection - Fracture (2010)

Review published by Jessica Simard on 2011-08-04

Insurrection - FractureExcuse me while I try to get some air back into my lungs. All of you have experienced this before, you turn on the stereo and put on an album that you haven't heard yet, although you already know the band and you know what to expect, as the music starts, you hold your breath all the way until the end of the first song. The first song has past, the second is about to start and your still wondering what it was your ears just heard. This is when you sit down and decide to listen attentively, because it's worth it and moments like this only come once in a while. Death metal........good f**king death metal.

I'm hearing the echoes of a strong rebirth in the death metal scene in the Quebec region and Insurrection is part of that. This is the album you put on you Ipod and walk down the street feeling like a god, absolutely invincible. This is the album that makes your aggressive side rise and where all you want to do is jump around like a retard, pounding on your chest a screaming as loud as you can.

So, I've listened to this album quite a few times since I got it. I'm sorry to say this is a masterpiece. There is nothing out of place on this album, it simply works. I would like to find a flaw in it so I don't sound like a total groupie...but there are none. Even after an outstanding number of listens, it's still as strong, it doesn’t feel boring at all, it sounds fresh every time I listen to it. Not to mention the superb sound quality.

When's the last time you heard a death metal band from Quebec, that had the balls to include french lyrics? Not very often, and most of time is sounds like shit. In Insurrection's case, it adds to the music and the mood. I must say, I never thought french could sound so brutal, so....evil. But it does. Besides, I seriously think it makes Insurrection that much more original. It makes them a band to be proud of, one of the bands you have to go see live, one of the bands you have to tell your friends about.

Now musically speaking,  I really don't see how it could be any better. Every instrument feels like it brings something useful to the songs. Fracture has has just enough of everything.

You don't know Insurrection yet? What are you waiting for? Let me give you a head start. Insurrection is a death metal band from Hull, Qc. They are unsigned and Fracture is their second full length, Prologue being their first. They've been around since 2003 and I am sure will be around for many years to come. Make sure you don”t miss them if they play a show near you. Let's face it, I much rather see them than Kataklysm (I must admit this is not my best comparison ) Oups, did I really write that. Death metal needs fresh blood and let's hope this album inspires some youngsters to steer away from the crap and come back to serious business.

Favorite song: Dérangé

I leave you all (until my next review) saying these few words : SET THE WORLD ON FIRE!
